The bottom layer is a 10" round yellow cake. The middle is two 6" round raspberry lemon cakes with lemon filling, and the top is half of the ball pan, also raspberry lemon. All almond flavored buttercream frosting. Plus - I made a two hour drive with this cake in my car and it made it in one piece with no damage =) It's the little things that count ;)<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtRNOGzPBw4Un-m969seTJVOB7BdL9rd91xSfOpoz2wBEzBxiP2lvWGhzJBzpE34NwkaEOk__2KBgpDbmkc5qFEpqtxtl-jpf4nC3wQfG0kGjCco60sGoOiXa7s2Z939CtQjh-2OR85lA/s1600-h/IMG_2480.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtRNOGzPBw4Un-m969seTJVOB7BdL9rd91xSfOpoz2wBEzBxiP2lvWGhzJBzpE34NwkaEOk__2KBgpDbmkc5qFEpqtxtl-jpf4nC3wQfG0kGjCco60sGoOiXa7s2Z939CtQjh-2OR85lA/s400/IMG_2480.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329359645086751858" border="0" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3163689707849373549.post-69657746934144383022009-04-19T14:52:00.004-04:002009-04-19T14:54:29.599-04:00Mickey MouseI'm really enjoying the opportunity to create cakes for kid's birthdays! This is an 8" round two layer cake with buttercream filling. The frosting is all buttercream, and I made the Mickey Mouse head by using a stencil I created from a picture I found online.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjkSULyRKXPcelRywhpgCev-VWsKMPz4y2fs2qHC7VmXKUjvS_Puvv33-aQdbWZEsSqgkHrxm3i1NjQSXSN2d-q2rpkfcPUb8NxcXuWruBO15dQw267e1JvdEbbnzZpOlTu-6VjHf7F-8/s1600-h/IMG_2467.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjkSULyRKXPcelRywhpgCev-VWsKMPz4y2fs2qHC7VmXKUjvS_Puvv33-aQdbWZEsSqgkHrxm3i1NjQSXSN2d-q2rpkfcPUb8NxcXuWruBO15dQw267e1JvdEbbnzZpOlTu-6VjHf7F-8/s400/IMG_2467.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326477653191425650" border="0" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3163689707849373549.post-11635504666538074482009-04-18T14:47:00.000-04:002009-04-19T14:52:01.509-04:00MonkeyI made another attempt at a FBCT (Frozen Buttercream Transfer) with the monkey for this first birthday cake. It turned out better than my previous attempts, but still isn't completely up to my expectations. I can't figure out how to make it look smooth. I guess this may be a technique that I need to keep practicing. The cake itself is chocolate fudge, with chocolate pudding filling. The frosting is all buttercream. The monkey is a FBCT and the rest of the decorations I freehanded.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYvYtrZWKoSx9SNQR5j3NTP7OZuknq9V146FcSC30fzIAt-22LKHGoTPu_d7zVoCCYbtIj9kAnh_eG7tLz_VEfb5TxAKdPmvPB_NT_6AE6bVd5DAX3fY_3KLwV5W_eSknYWekKDsR2MCs/s1600-h/IMG_2463.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYvYtrZWKoSx9SNQR5j3NTP7OZuknq9V146FcSC30fzIAt-22LKHGoTPu_d7zVoCCYbtIj9kAnh_eG7tLz_VEfb5TxAKdPmvPB_NT_6AE6bVd5DAX3fY_3KLwV5W_eSknYWekKDsR2MCs/s400/IMG_2463.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326477025651356242" border="0" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3163689707849373549.post-47926212668439500942009-04-11T15:30:00.004-04:002009-04-11T15:35:06.097-04:00Eggs in a (Chocolate) BasketI've seen this idea in several variations online, and finally decided to give it a try myself. I made an 8"x3" round yellow cake, torted and filled with whipped strawberry fluff filling. I put a layer of white buttercream over the entire cake, and then stuck kit kat candy bars around the edges. A pretty ribbon around the outside, and then filled the center with chocolate candy eggs.<br />Now the only dilemna is who exactly is going to eat it?!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTZ6l96q4tUkC-PpKtXRWbVoK7paUbS1l0QDbZnaUf9V7_G9zxcY3Th2yLC-IO45sBmHVvR4q_oa5JdWhmsboMmQmQv4e2PHhDbD3hSBdxkTpxLiKquW0Kn6myrEuHac17r0Wcwr0wvV4/s1600-h/IMG_2448.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTZ6l96q4tUkC-PpKtXRWbVoK7paUbS1l0QDbZnaUf9V7_G9zxcY3Th2yLC-IO45sBmHVvR4q_oa5JdWhmsboMmQmQv4e2PHhDbD3hSBdxkTpxLiKquW0Kn6myrEuHac17r0Wcwr0wvV4/s400/IMG_2448.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323519305776775794" border="0" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3163689707849373549.post-22066975264567053992009-04-10T21:15:00.006-04:002009-04-10T21:27:27.563-04:00Easter Cupcakes<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK2HZ5KaVTkVfCWovwCl8wiKZd70Mq_qS5OZAe5wdNvhyphenhyphentkqFRechMjhEX13o4ViHI8P6sno9WWbc4-XmkgT0I2cXh5tBcdL4R-SYM7xvgEr-ij0ehJWEC2_-RY6k-sMJffZMbGrAJN30/s1600-h/IMG_2442.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK2HZ5KaVTkVfCWovwCl8wiKZd70Mq_qS5OZAe5wdNvhyphenhyphentkqFRechMjhEX13o4ViHI8P6sno9WWbc4-XmkgT0I2cXh5tBcdL4R-SYM7xvgEr-ij0ehJWEC2_-RY6k-sMJffZMbGrAJN30/s400/IMG_2442.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323238911695653730" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: left;">Easter cupcakes are so fun! Tonight I finished up two princess cakes - one Snow White and one Ariel. Both are Yellow-Almond-Sour Cream cakes made with the Wilton Wonder Mold and buttercream icing. Just pay no attention to Ariel's hair...I had to tie it up to keep it out of the way while I was decorating. I have several upcoming orders for easter themed cakes and cupcakes but none of them are what I had in my head! I guess I have to get creative for myself sometimes too ;)<br /><br />I had some leftover frosting, so I baked some cupcakes yesterday. I tried out two different (yet very similar, lol) techniques for making some bunny cupcakes with the colors and materials I had on hand. The cupcake with the pink frosting has a large marshmallow sliced width-wise, and then I cut into that length-wise to give the ears the split down the middle. The cheeks are two mini marshmallows, the eyes are two nonpareils and the nose is an upside down heart sprinkle. The cupcake with the green grass frosting is two slices of a large marshmallow, cut side dipped in red sugar (I didn't have pink on hand...), and then the same upside down heart sprinkle with marshmallows for the nose and cheeks, and nonpareils for the eyes. I wish I had more frosting...this is literally exactly what I had left so I was struggling to make it last to do just these two cupcakes! If I did these again, I'd use pink sugar instead of red, and do all the ears like the one on the left in the picture. I'd probably even put another nonpareil under the cheeks for a little tongue poking out!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilXmnwFqmOslsb-ypYYy-mhTmxJBgfdRIVSSzJqFAMoo9WcFdodrNuvQVF69PAWH3bD8wHq1RMh9waQqo2d-VzLnB6AeFsdxVDriu-H7t20hGI_M4HM66qEYgFjqcvGZ7ctxMApNt8hIs/s1600-h/IMG_2440.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilXmnwFqmOslsb-ypYYy-mhTmxJBgfdRIVSSzJqFAMoo9WcFdodrNuvQVF69PAWH3bD8wHq1RMh9waQqo2d-VzLnB6AeFsdxVDriu-H7t20hGI_M4HM66qEYgFjqcvGZ7ctxMApNt8hIs/s400/IMG_2440.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5320197939847241010" border="0" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3163689707849373549.post-8654586455846406362009-03-29T17:33:00.005-04:002009-03-29T18:03:06.941-04:00A royal dayToday I had two separate cake orders. One was for a Cinderella doll cake, and one for a castle. I love love love making the doll cakes - I had one when I was a little girl for my fourth birthday and I think it always sticks out in my mind as something special. Hopefully I can help give that special memory to other little girls!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7pKsSAQsNDEJS5STIsqei9kkXcQ2sRYp5i6vZ8hNmDIvlklEy1sSavpz4o7Wut1t-PjfE0TzJtSQ3zrBePjoTPEOlnqtRlwf36nBB2-7VVbeNXy7hA6_woVhENLQaZHhkryNwrLW4mmI/s1600-h/IMG_1886.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7pKsSAQsNDEJS5STIsqei9kkXcQ2sRYp5i6vZ8hNmDIvlklEy1sSavpz4o7Wut1t-PjfE0TzJtSQ3zrBePjoTPEOlnqtRlwf36nBB2-7VVbeNXy7hA6_woVhENLQaZHhkryNwrLW4mmI/s320/IMG_1886.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318730648938845938" border="0" /></a>The Cinderella cake is the Wilton Wonder Mold with an 8" round yellow cake below it for added height and servings. I used all buttercream to decorate the Cinderella doll provided by the birthday girl's mom. I used tip 104 to create the white swag around Cinderella's hips on the dress, and to create the swag around the central part of the cake, as well as the bows. The pink drop flowers were tip 2D, and the rosettes around the bottom were tip 16. The hardest part is icing the bodice part of the dress onto the doll's body! I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out though =)<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />The second cake of the day was a castle cake for another 3 year old birthday girl. This was my first time using the Wilton Romantic Castle Cake Set. The mom didn't want a tiered cake, so we did what we could with a 9x13 sheet cake. I think it turned out pretty good!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga3aUY511xh3IpdBLitGDhrVHZ6zvuCYvzhP3hLsO_itUZlfIsjvTza5AR7UVpaWVvPn1fcgEOC8BLuQ7uw6_dfzAGCVPCB7ie2vSjaFR75YPmqc_PABTP65S-OHgyVESddzJS_tUzh3o/s1600-h/IMG_1901.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 299px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga3aUY511xh3IpdBLitGDhrVHZ6zvuCYvzhP3hLsO_itUZlfIsjvTza5AR7UVpaWVvPn1fcgEOC8BLuQ7uw6_dfzAGCVPCB7ie2vSjaFR75YPmqc_PABTP65S-OHgyVESddzJS_tUzh3o/s320/IMG_1901.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318732533185280418" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I used all buttercream to decorate this cake (are you noticing the buttercream trend with my cakes? lol). The flower cake is yellow almond sour cream with all buttercream icing. I used the Wilton Dancing Daisy pan for it. The cupcakes are egg and nut free, with buttercream icing. I star piped the flower with tip 16, used tip 47 for the stem and grass, and used tips 14 and 6 on the cupcakes. The caterpillar eyes are Hershey's Kissables, and the antennae are candy grass. It's nose and mouth are icing. I couldn't fit a dozen cupcakes on the cake board, so the extras are on the side ;) <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY6DlKtScGd8OS3MeiMW3dTUXai8jalayfKu73vKvNevOtrt2DqJvK-AnxPIp9gU7w0ps6QGnBuGEk6_5WOjazGupd3VtDum8dlLwaOkTQpH9hlyALHKNRnDCTXgSPPVdcDNV115GZw2I/s1600-h/IMG_1855.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 324px; height: 483px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY6DlKtScGd8OS3MeiMW3dTUXai8jalayfKu73vKvNevOtrt2DqJvK-AnxPIp9gU7w0ps6QGnBuGEk6_5WOjazGupd3VtDum8dlLwaOkTQpH9hlyALHKNRnDCTXgSPPVdcDNV115GZw2I/s320/IMG_1855.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318278364517068754" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVjyaMD9aBirM0urNri3VQkx7YkrnnB6_OHF-RjD9CTNjFOnfMHglAealUIek_BTI2ouzp0BjdbVjVZ6zptjzZM47fhBTPzk3ZY4chCqXjXV5uyped284zzH34d8Zne4Gbqg7Wj04Kb0I/s1600-h/IMG_1857.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVjyaMD9aBirM0urNri3VQkx7YkrnnB6_OHF-RjD9CTNjFOnfMHglAealUIek_BTI2ouzp0BjdbVjVZ6zptjzZM47fhBTPzk3ZY4chCqXjXV5uyped284zzH34d8Zne4Gbqg7Wj04Kb0I/s320/IMG_1857.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318278370970944338" border="0" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3163689707849373549.post-61809083490664188772009-03-21T15:57:00.000-04:002009-03-23T17:52:23.300-04:00March Wedding CakesThis weekend I had the opportunity to make some great, unique wedding cakes for a friend of a friend. She wanted individual round cakes to display on tiered plates, all decorated with white-on-white frosting. I had a lot of fun and the bride left a lot of the details up to me which was great! Each cake was a different flavor and each one was individually decorated using different styles and techniques. See below for the pictures and a photo of the cakes on display at the wedding reception (prior to the caterers decorating the table lol).<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBrgDbWs-x_fqehMdRI8Xk-ooq-74I2kVUu_hp5Gdes7sz_6XgL6R8WKjgQf3NHCkVZGW2tG2Z_XUuOdZxOJSHt2XF06cyLFLE9Xmw0VyKdl4SnlT_409IwhrcxA37qcfkw0T6CXgyTyk/s1600-h/IMG_2389.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBrgDbWs-x_fqehMdRI8Xk-ooq-74I2kVUu_hp5Gdes7sz_6XgL6R8WKjgQf3NHCkVZGW2tG2Z_XUuOdZxOJSHt2XF06cyLFLE9Xmw0VyKdl4SnlT_409IwhrcxA37qcfkw0T6CXgyTyk/s320/IMG_2389.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316480427869586290" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzzFZ-DWjnTsYULI0sTwsR0hfPSzEEEHxG8HRnawQOWQOa6BxoTM1VT2oXWrrr8z9NSM-OdYs591lL9cuG81oJ2tRnz7dB3yd6f0G4YwWueMc8ZXOL35jOLGX7tBOMa-Q0wqUfcXRMbLw/s1600-h/IMG_2390.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzzFZ-DWjnTsYULI0sTwsR0hfPSzEEEHxG8HRnawQOWQOa6BxoTM1VT2oXWrrr8z9NSM-OdYs591lL9cuG81oJ2tRnz7dB3yd6f0G4YwWueMc8ZXOL35jOLGX7tBOMa-Q0wqUfcXRMbLw/s320/IMG_2390.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316478675249791170" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br />The swirls on this cake were made with tip 3.
