Wiggly Birthday
Happy 3rd Wiggly Birthday Carter! He wanted a Wiggles birthday cake with the Big Red Car. I printed a picture of the car, cut it out, and traced the outline onto the cake. Then I freehand drew the details on the car and finished it with the colored frosting. The cake is egg free and it is all buttercream icing.

Curious George Birthday Cake
I made Curious George and the Yellow Hat from a photo online - I traced the outline and then freehand drew the rest and filled it in with the colored frosting. The cake is frosted completely in buttercream frosting.

Cornelli Lace Birthday Cake
I've been wanting to try the cornelli lace technique on a colored background with white lace. I finally had the opportunity when my cousin came to town for her 20th birthday and I decided to make her a cake! The cake is yellow almond butter and the frosting is vanilla almond buttercream. It is a triple-layer cake - one layer of Nutella filling and one layer of chocolate pudding filling. Yum!
Happy Birthday Jennifer!

Elmo First Birthday Cake
This first birthday cake was a prize I donated to TriadMommies. The lucky winner received a free cake! It's all buttercream frosting. Yum!

Mickey Mouse
I'm really enjoying the opportunity to create cakes for kid's birthdays! This is an 8" round two layer cake with buttercream filling. The frosting is all buttercream, and I made the Mickey Mouse head by using a stencil I created from a picture I found online.

Monkey
I made another attempt at a FBCT (Frozen Buttercream Transfer) with the monkey for this first birthday cake. It turned out better than my previous attempts, but still isn't completely up to my expectations. I can't figure out how to make it look smooth. I guess this may be a technique that I need to keep practicing. The cake itself is chocolate fudge, with chocolate pudding filling. The frosting is all buttercream. The monkey is a FBCT and the rest of the decorations I freehanded.

A royal day
Today I had two separate cake orders. One was for a Cinderella doll cake, and one for a castle. I love love love making the doll cakes - I had one when I was a little girl for my fourth birthday and I think it always sticks out in my mind as something special. Hopefully I can help give that special memory to other little girls!
The Cinderella cake is the Wilton Wonder Mold with an 8" round yellow cake below it for added height and servings. I used all buttercream to decorate the Cinderella doll provided by the birthday girl's mom. I used tip 104 to create the white swag around Cinderella's hips on the dress, and to create the swag around the central part of the cake, as well as the bows. The pink drop flowers were tip 2D, and the rosettes around the bottom were tip 16. The hardest part is icing the bodice part of the dress onto the doll's body! I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out though =)
The second cake of the day was a castle cake for another 3 year old birthday girl. This was my first time using the Wilton Romantic Castle Cake Set. The mom didn't want a tiered cake, so we did what we could with a 9x13 sheet cake. I think it turned out pretty good!
I used all buttercream to decorate this cake (are you noticing the buttercream trend with my cakes? lol). I used the grass tip for the bottom border, and tip 3 for the flower stems. Tip 30 made the pink flowers, and tip 4 for all the blue outlining on the windows, doors and turrets.

Rocket Ship
The rocket ship cake was one of the more challenging cakes I made. My visual was so different from the actual result! I also completely misjudged the size of the top rocket shaped cake I carved from a sheet cake. My first attempt was WAY too big to sit on the base sheet cake layer. Oops! Then I had problems getting the frosting to stick to the rocketship after I re-carved it to fit. I think I got it looking mostly okay after several attempts, lol.
The border of the rocket and the rocket "nose" are Hershey's Kissables. The yellow stars I freehanded with buttercream, and the flames at the base of the rocket are just color striped buttercream.

1st Birthday Elmo!
Normally I *hate* making red icing - I can never seem to get it to be red...its always some funky shade of pink. I tried the red icing from Americolor this time instead of Wilton and it is SO much better (although I still needed to use a lot of it). If anyone has tips for making a real, true red icing, please share!
For the sheet cake, I printed a mirror-image of the Elmo picture I wanted to use, and then cut it out and "traced" it into my cake frosting with a toothpick. The stars are just the giant sprinkles from Wilton, and I used nonpareils on the letters although those are kind of hard to see in the picture ;)
I made a six inch Elmo smash cake too - super fun! I just freehanded Elmo's face for this cake. I can only imagine how messy this was for the birthday boy with all that frosting!

Double Birthday - Wow Wow Wubbzy and Hello Kitty
My little girl turned four years old and we celebrated with one of her friends who was also turning four! I made cakes for both of them - a Wow Wow Wubbzy cake complete with Kickity Kick Ball for Jackson and a Hello Kitty Ballerina cake for my daughter Daniela. I wanted them to look somewhat similar (size, base color) but distinct enough so they'd each have their own special cake. I wrote "Happy 4th Birthday Daniela" and "Happy 4th Birthday Jackson" on the sides of the cake. The Wubbzy cake is egg-free...but you'd never know it by looking at the picture!

Racecar!
This was a last minute cake for a friend's son's birthday. She put the toy car on the "track" just before serving the cake (so it isn't in the photo). The sides of the cake are black and white checkerboard pattern. As always, it's all buttercream!

Poker and Bowling go hand in hand
My boyfriend is an aspiring pro-bowler and pro-poker player. What better to celebrate his birthday last year than two cakes featuring his favorite hobbies?
The bowling pins and bowling ball were free-handed using a toothpick so I could get them *just right* before using the icing.

His favorite poker hand...eight-ten of hearts. He won a big tournament with this hand!

A poker cake for one of his friends...featuring his favorite hand ("The Hammer")....seven-deuce off suit. LOL. My first attempt at a FBCT (frozen buttercream transfer) for the cards.

Whipped Cream frosting
My first foray into using whipped cream frosting. I can't remember which recipe I used, I just know I found it on Cake Central. It's not very easy to decorate with, but it sure does taste yummy! A Welcome Home cake and a Birthday cake.

Dora the Explorer
I made this Dora the Explorer cake for my daughter's third birthday. It was my first time using a character pan, so I did a trial run first. I think this is the picture of the trial cake.
